A cool breeze ruffled the listless canine’s dusky golden fur as he lolled in a nest of Corsican mint budding amongst a patch of herbs and flowers. The mixture of scents tickled his sensitive nose, but no longer nauseated him as when he’d first arrived. A creature of the desert, the abundance and variety of foliage had initially been both disconcerting and overwhelming; but as time passed Gaiya had gradually begun to adjust, and now he found that many smells which had formerly nauseated him were quite wonderful.
It had taken some weeks, but finally Gaiya was beginning to adjust to most things. Different as this place was from the deserts (and as much as it irked him to admit it), Gaiya couldn’t claim it was unpleasant; something he rather disliked at times, considering how desperately he still missed his homeland. Part of him still sorely wanted to find his way home to the outback, and he was partially afraid that if he accepted this heaven he might forget where he came from.
Nowadays nights were the worst. Even now Gaiya could not accustom himself to the chill in the air. It settled without fail each night and gnawed mercilessly through his thin coat to bite at his flesh. The deserts had been frigid at night, also, but there had always been a pack mate to curl up against when nights became too nippy for comfort. Gaiya had made a few casual acquaintances since his arrival, but so far he was still looking for a place to belong… granted, it would have been easier if didn’t spend so much time sulking.
At the moment dusk wasn't far off. The edges of the sky were just beginning to change colors and soon the sun would be bowing behind the horizon. Gaiya huffed softly through his nose as he peered through clumps of lemon grass growing around his nest in the garden. He could see flowers swaying in the breeze and hear something rustling in the shrubs nearby; it sounded like a rabbit, but he wasn't hungry enough to rise and investigate. Instead he remained where he was, listening for the sound of footfalls on the path and daring to hope someone friendly might come along and chase away the sense of loneliness worrying at his heart.

The Fields of Rue lived up to it's reputation as expected, though. The colours were all vibrant, fluorescent, and even bending in the wind, they were as beautiful as ever. The scent of the field was overpowering, but it also brought a peace that the wolf wandering could never turn down. Soft pads carried her gracefully through Rue, her eyes following every petal that flew into the wind, becoming one with the sky.
In the distance, Zira could see a figure, and she could tell by the silhouette who he was. Zira smiled to herself subtly, and began to walk towards him. Gaiya- He wasn't Zira's first encounter, but she was his. She felt that had built a special friendship between the two, though still they were strangers. As she walked to him, she met his eyes once in distance of the action. She smiled at him, and dipped her head as a greeting, as though asking permission for her to approach. She was a polite wolf, and often did gestures like so.
"Gaiya, friend." Zira cooed, her voice soft and heartfelt. She missed his company, honestly. His wisdom was something she always enjoyed learning from, and the two had conversations like none other.

Gaiya wiggled comfortably in his lush bedding, shoving his nose into the tiny leaves and inhaling deeply of the cool, minty scent and shivering pleasantly as it filled his lungs. His movements crushed the leaves beneath him, further releasing their pleasant scent into air surrounding him. Some of these new plants, Gaiya had to admit, were quite delightful. Even in spite of his stubborn determination to sulk about missing home the dingo often ended up spending large chunks of time hunting down interesting new foliage.
A rustling sound nearby caught his attention, and Gaiya lifted his muzzle from the leaves and craned his head above the tall grasses in time to see a familiar face appear around the bend. He sat up slowly, tail thumping softly in the process; Zira was just the companion to chase away loneliness. She was warm hearted and friendly, always willing to tolerate him when he needed a little bit of comfort.
He shook himself slightly, shreds of green falling away from his dusky golden coat, “Hi Zira,” he smiled as she approached, “how’re you this evening friend?”

She smiled warmly at the Australian dog, always glad to be in his presence. His species was one that intrigued her very, very much. Those orange coats were nothing like that of the wolf, yet they were close relatives. His eyes were something completely different than a wolf's, too. They were like the sun, an amber that Zira had never really encountered before.
"I am well, my friend. I would hope you are the same?" Zira asked, her ears going forward on her head and an eyebrow rose on her face. Her face was a soft one, with subtle curves and beautiful eyes. They always shone with a hope she did well to reflect.
The wind still carried petals in the sky, and with it the scent of the Rue Fields and now, the scent of Gaiya and Zira with it. The wind curled and danced and lingered in Zira's pelt, emphasizing all her colors and the beauty of it. Zira sat herself down, not far from Gaiya now. They could talk without raising their voice, yet Zira tried not to make Gaiya uncomfortable with the closeness.
