Nostrils flaring, she padded silently through the rock formations, ears flickering and eyes scanning the horizon. No one had managed to find their way this far into the maze, perfect protection for the rebellion's pack. No one but those in the pack knew the way through, some unfortunate souls had stumbled upon their dens by accident, and had learned to stay well and far away.
It was her turn to parol, these next few hours would be quiet and lonely, perfect time for the devils inside to rage and slam against the bars of their cages, ever weakening the steel she reinforced herself. But not enough to break through. She wouldn't let them, not while she had a job to do. They were only let out in the heat of battle...in times where she had no control over her thoughts, where she was pure, animalistic action and reaction, instinct and muscle memory.
A breeze filled with scents of death, fire, and brimstone wafted through the air, and she paused, letting her lids flutter closed so she could take the smell in better, enjoying the scents and sounds of her new home, the babbling of the brooks of lava, the hiss of sulfuric gases in the air, popping of fire and sparks across the horizon. But this time, something smelled different on the air, something that she knew, but couldn't place, so her mind immediately labeled it as a stranger, and thus a threat to her home.

Dagonet padded silently through the sprawling crave, expertly navigating a labyrinth of twists and turns. It was easy to become hoplessly lost in a place like this, but Dagonet knew the path under foot as well as he knew himself. For nearly two weeks Dragunov had been operating discreetly from a chamber hidden deep within the maze. No one who attempted to search them out would have a chance in hell of locating their camp; and odds were slim at best anyone would stumble across them by accident. And if they did…well, they could be dispatched off.
Even deep within the subterranean reaches of hell the air was hot, heavy with brimstone and thick in the lungs. Dagonet’s red tongue lolled from parted jaws as he navigated the corridors, traveling with a purposeful gait though he was in no real hurry. For the moment their group was slugging through the lull that always came before an army was amassed. They were keeping a low profile, gathering numbers and scoping our potential threats. Nothing that would draw any unwanted attention.
Soon he was reaching the inner circles of Dragunov’s temporary territory. Through the scents of molten rock and brimstone he began to catch whiffs of his subordinates; Vyxion had passed through recently, as had Malice and several others. Their group were rarely all in one place; they came and went as needed, staying in touch through a network of runners.
Dagonet slowed his pace as he rounded a corner, making his way to a small alcove where a rare pool of fresh water gathered at the base of one of the stalagmites. He pawed once at the surface of the water, letting the tepid liquid soothe paws blistered from a trek among volcanoes, then lowered his head and began lapping at the mineral laden pool.

With his head down, tongue lapping at the water, the noticeably male wolf was indistinguishable, and she did not recognize his scent. Her ears flattened against the crown of her skull, lips pulling back to reveal white teeth and red gums.
The wind stirred around her as she took a breath in from her nose, hackles raised as she took yet another cautious step closer to the strange canine, the air rushing from her lungs, a low, threatening, and highly territorial growl following it.
Who the fuck are you?
Her voice was acid, filled with venom and underlying threats that didn't need to be verbalized to be understood. The Russian twinge to her words only made it sound that much more violent. Her blue eyes glinted dangerously, another snarl ripping from the depths of her chest, her muscular body quivered and tensing, ready to strike for the sake of her pack, ready to protect her family. She had no idea who this wolf was, and she didn't like that they had managed to squeeze past the guards and get so close to the dens. She was simply doing her job, protecting. If she didn't know the creature, she considered them a threat, and rightly so. Her last words were more of a hiss, than anything, eyes narrowing further.
You do not belong here. This land is claimed, turn back, or you will regret it, dog.

While bowed over the small pool Dagonet drank deeply, lapping at the warm liquid until the puddle began to shrink. Pure water was hard to come by in hell. The rivers were tainted with rotting flesh and sulfur fouled the rest; but if one knew where to look, as Dagonet was rapidly learning to do, it was possible to find pockets of almost clean water.
He heard footfalls approaching from his back, but being securely within the folds of his own territory Dagonet thought nothing of it until a cold, threatening snarl hissed at his back, “Who the fuck are you?”
Dagonet lashed his tail once from one side to the other, straightening slowly and rounding to face the creature that dared challenge his right to tread here. His vivid amber gaze settled on a pitch colored wolf; a female, one Dagonet had never personally encountered before. Her scent, however, was not unfamiliar to him. He’d scented it on subordinates, which meant this female must have been a member of Dragunov’s growing army.
“I should be asking the same of you, female,” Dagonet answered dryly, squaring his shoulders back and arching his neck regally - both in a display of dominance and readying for a potential dispute, “this territory is as much mine as it is Dragunov’s. Who are you to impede my passing?”

Confusion swept over her for a moment, and it showed only briefly on her face, before flitting away, her cold, stone-like mask back on as per usual. She watched him look her over, her brow still arched as she stared coolly up at the male before her.
'Scuse me?
She eyed him, staring at him as though he were crazy, she had no idea who this wolf was, yet he was claiming to be one of the top members of Dragunov's army?
What is your name then, if I may be so bold? I won't take any unnecessary chances.
Her voice was smooth, calm, collected, though a twinge of fear struck at her heart. She worried, what if this wolf really was Dragunov's right hand man? And what if she had just sentenced herself to death? She was so screwed if that were the case. She swallowed, hoping her thick fur would hide the movement of her throat from him as her stare refused to waver.
I'm sure you understand my concern.

Dagonet’s molten eyes gleamed savagely as he stared the female down, observing the way her eyes widened and her features twisted every so slightly with confusion. She concealed her disconcertment well, all things considered; but Dagonet had been managing troops long enough to know when he caught someone off their guard for whatever reason. The female’s brow curved warily, her gaze fixated coolly on him. She didn’t seem to believe his claim, and while the impediment annoyed him greatly, Dagonet appreciated her commitment all the same.
He strode forward fluidly when she demanded his name, drawing to a sharp halt less than a foot away, holding his head above her own, “Normally I would make an example of you,” he spoke coolly, tone sharp and dangerous as he gazed intensely into her eyes. Silence lapsed between them for several long moments as he looked her over, letting the tension grow until finally he allowed the faintest of smiles to quirk back the corner of his mouth, “but seeing as we’ve never met before, I find your commitment laudable…” his voice trailed off slowly and Dagonet took another few moments to study the female before himself, “You must be Deirdre,” he remarked, finally. There were only two females currently within Dragunov’s ranks, and Dagonet had already encountered Alue. “My name is Dagonet,” he finally answered her question, flipping his tail lazily, “Dagonet Marcianus.”

How the?
She trailed off as she heard him speak again, Dagonet. This was Dagonet as in Dragunov's right hand man. As in the wolf who had sold his soul for a working limb, the only one she knew to fear within the pack outside of Dragunov's family.
Sir...I uh. I apologize for my insubordinate attitude.
She let her head drop, and her tail, as a sign of recognition toward his dominance. She winced inwardly, beating herself up for her stupidity. Swallowing, she nodded, keeping her head low. Yes, though, sir. My name is Deirdre. Deirdre Ivashkov. It is a pleasure to meet someone I have heard so many things about, after all this time. She licked at her lips, keeping them from drying too much, and glanced up at him, not moving her head.

He observed the female’s reactions carefully, gaze carefully following her every move. Judging by the way her facial features contorted he had guessed her calling correctly; this time she didn’t much attempt to conceal her confusion. Dagonet recognized her actions for what they were; an innocent mistake. She was merely doing her duty, and since they had never been formally introduced she had no way of knowing him.
“At ease, soldier,” he chuckled after a moment, smiling faintly as he gazed at the female standing before him, “the pleasure is all mine,” extending one paw Dagonet lowered his chest in a shallow bow before straightening smoothly. Deirdre remained respectfully submissive; but he would have expected nothing less. Though this was their first face to face encounter, Dagonet remembered her name from his days back on Traum. This female was very much loyal to drago. “It’s good to know our soldiers take their posts seriously,” he said, fixing his gleaming gaze on her’s, “I won’t hold this one instance against you.”

I meant no harm. You simply surprised me. Her voice was sheepish as she glanced up at him, a wave of awe spreading across her at the fact that he had said the pleasure was all his, even if it was just common courtesy. No leader needed to use common courtesy, of course, so the fact that he did so with her was amazing in and of itself. The bow that he added on to it nearly gave her a heart attack, and she blinked rapidly, nodding. I do the best that I can, sir. I wish only to further our cause.
She smiled faintly, scuffing at the dirt with her paws, relaxing a little, though still remaining submissive. Her nostrils flared as she breathed in, memorizing his scent so that they would never have this incident again, her ears twitching as they memorized the sound of his voice, the sound of the way his weight shifted against the ground, making loose pebbles skitter away as his weight sunk down and lifted away. Her eyes flickered up to memorize his features, the silhouette of his body, his build. If she were to do this again, she most certainly would not be forgiven. I hope all fares well, sir?

“As well as can be expected at this point in time,” Dagonet answered, corner of his mouth quirking back in a soft smile. Recruitment had been rather slow for the past week or so; but such was expected every now and then. Even in death, nothing worth while came without blood and sweat. Success came from possessing the force of will to push through periods of stagnation, from an ability to keep loyalties strong even when nothing seemed to be happening. Fortunately, Dragunov and himself found themselves with a rare advantage; their forming army was thus far composed of soldiers loyal beyond death.
A brief silence lapsed between them as Dagonet studied the female further, familiarizing himself with her features, “You were a member of the order, were you not?” It was a statement more so than a question; he already knew she was. Dragunov’s former army had been large, and Dagonet had no way of knowing every individual personally. However, this had never stopped him from keeping track of reputations, “It’s a pity I was unable to spend more time in your presence then,” he finished with a soft smile, stepping slowly closer to the female and crowding boldly into her personal space.
