It seemed like it had been days since Matana could see more than two feet in front of her. She squinted her eyes, trying to see through the mist. The forest she was in was eerily quiet, and it was a bit unnerving. She didn't even remember how she had ended up in this strange place. All she could remember was a bright flash of light, and then, she was here.
Mattie pricked her ears, straining to hear any sort of sound around her. No luck, just as she thought. Her ears drooped, and her eyelids began to do so as well. Maybe I'll just lay down for a little while, she thought. It doesn't sound like anything is here to hurt me, so I should be okay. She made her way to the nearest tree, and curled up at its roots. It wasn't long before her eyes fluttered shut and she fell asleep.
It was still twilight-looking light through the forest when Mattie woke up. She struggled onto her hooves, and stretched. It didn't seem like anything had changed while she was asleep. It could have been a few days or a few seconds, it probably didn't matter. It didn't seem like this place ever changed. Shaking her head, she started forward again. Maybe she could get out of here and find another deer or some kind of creature that would help her.

He plodded quietly through the grey wastelands, eyes scanning the bleak horizon for the decaying forest of 'trees.'
"Jumala..." The white sambar deer muttered under his breath, the Finnish word for 'God.' He often reverted to his original language to speak both with Hämähäkki and when thinking aloud to no one but himself, or asking a rhetorical question. 'Hän jäätyä..." Purgatory was cold, and the young doe would suffer, perhaps even freeze to the core, and become one of the crystalized souls in the earth. She would freeze if she didn't know how to care for herself and stay warm.
When he finally came across the sleeping figure, he said nothing, simply letting her rest, but keeping a watchful eye over her, because lord knew that he would never hear the end of it from Hämähäkki if he let her waste away here, even if she were already dead. When the doe began to migrate away and into the wasteland he followed her, moving ahead after a while and standing to the side of her path, his horned head held high as he stood atop a stone, one leg cocked to rest lightly, relaxed, on the stone.
"It is not safe to sleep here." His booming voice echoed about the plains as the little doe neared where he stood, knowing that she would hear.

Matana hadn't even noticed the white stag until he spoke. Startled, she tripped over her two front hooves, falling on her face. She looked up at him, her eyes wide with wonder. She had been so lost in her thoughts about whether or not there was another living creature here, that she didn't even notice the living creature right in front of her. "Why isn't it safe? I didn't hear anything dangerous," she challenged, getting up. She shook herself, wrinkling her nose. She wasn't usually this disrespectful, but since she was scared and tired, she didn't really care how she came off.
Mattie made her way towards the stag, sticking her hooves up on the rock that he was standing on. Tilting her head to the side, she eyed him up and down. "You know you have a bug in your antlers?" she said. She would have asked his name, but the spider was just freaking her out a little bit. She would never let a spider hang out in her antlers...if she could grow antlers.
She shook her head a little bit, trying not to get distracted by the spider weaving its way through his antlers. "Who are you?" she asked. "Where am I?"

He snorted and rolled his eyes at the arachnid, arching a proud brow at the young one's rather bad attitude. "Et koskaan sanonut että hän oli töykeä..." He muttered to the spider, his dead eyes flickering to the prongs of his horns to glare at the creature before him. A sheepish look came across Hämähäkki's face as he replied, Et koskaan kysynyt. He snorted again, before returning his gaze to the fawn.
No, you didn't. But you will waste away here if you sleep. You will become one of the souls that feeds this disgusting realm's mad hunger. And it will want you, for you are young, and you have much to give.
He cocked his eyebrow again as she moved in a scatter-brained manner throughout topics. I'm quite aware, young one. He is Hämähäkki, my companion and informant. He told me of your presence. Shifting his weight, he listened to her next spiel of questions, sighing inwardly. She was one of the types that needed to know every single nitty gritty detail.
I am Valkoinen Kuolema, known as Pestilence, The White Stag, or The Horned King. You are in Purgatory. A realm in which you reside until you take your chosen gate. You are dead, young one.

Et koskaan kysynyt - 'You never asked.'
